Charlie completed his Degree of Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Adelaide in 2010. In 2009 he received the ‘The Innovation Prize for Research Impact’, for Final Year Projects in Mechanical Engineering.

Since embarking on his career as an expert witness he has travelled both interstate and overseas to develop his skills. In 2011 he attended the Engineering Dynamics Corporation EDC Simulations Course in Burbank, California, USA. He completed the SAE Technical Accident Investigation and Reconstruction Course in Melbourne in 2011 and received his Certificate of Completion of the Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) Operators Course and Analysis and Applications Course from ASPACI in Penrith in 2011. Charlie attended the Engineering Dynamics Corporation HVE forum in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA in 2012, and in 2013, 2015 and 2019 attended the Australian Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) Operators, Analysis and Applications Update Classes. In 2016 Charlie completed the Human Factors for Traffic Reconstruction in Melbourne. In 2019 Charlie completed the ASPACI Forensic Tyre Examination Course.

As well as appearing before the Court as an Expert Witness Charlie has also presented at numerous conferences and seminars on the subject of accident reconstruction and has been asked to be the Expert Judge in South Australian Community Service Awards "Jones Harley Toole Community Road Safety Award" since 2017.

Charlie started Aust Automotive Engineering and has been practicing as an expert witness in the reconstruction of motor vehicle accidents since July 2010.
