Vehicle Systems Engineering

Harry completed his Bachelor of Technology (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Adelaide in 1970. Whilst at University he first started to build and drive racing cars. Once graduated, he worked for Chrysler Australia, at the time the Valiant Charger was released. After working in Melbourne in the Vehicle Safety Standards Branch he returned to Adelaide to work as a Vehicle Engineer in the Road Traffic Board, looking after modifications to vehicles. He was seconded from the Board to join the Road Accident Unit at Adelaide University as a Research Fellow and was a team member in the major Adelaide In Depth Study in 1976. This involved at scene attendance at about 150 accidents, examination of all involved vehicles and co-authorship of two of the reports produced in the Study.

He returned briefly to the Board but left to lead a Side Impact Study at the Road Accident Unit. Following this he started an Engineering Consultancy working on child restraints and seat belts at Rainsfords Metal Products, on Safety Compliance engineering at Mitsubishi and on providing opinions on engineering aspects of road accidents.

He also set up an engineering firm, K and A Engineering, which specialized in motor sport services, including the design and manufacture of Australian Championship winning cars such as the Alfetta Chevrolet Sports Sedan and the Veskanda Group C Sports car.


Harry started Vehicle Systems Engineering Pty. Ltd and he has been practising as an expert witness in the reconstruction of motor vehicle accidents since July 1980.
